Are You Spiritual?

September 6, 2015 Preacher: Josh Black Series: 1 Corinthians: A Beautiful Mess, Part 1

Passage: 1 Corinthians 2:6– 3:4

Sermon Questions
- How have you heard the word “spiritual” misused in contrast to Donald Whitney’s definition---“[being spiritual] involves the pursuit of God and the things of God, through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit in accordance with God’s self-revelation (that is, the Bible).” Does this definition challenge your understanding of what it means to be spiritual?

- “The gospel is not a mystery in that we can’t understand it. It’s a mystery in that it was hidden or concealed, but has now been revealed.” How does this truth affect how you understand the Old Testament?

- The Word of God is necessary to know God and live spiritually. What are you doing to grow in your understanding of the Word? How can your small group encourage you in this area?

- Why must we have the Spirit of God to understand the gospel? How would this truth been received by the pride-filled, Corinthian church? How does it affect you?

- Paul calls out the Corinthians for living like natural people when they should be living as spiritual people. Read Galatians 5:19-24. Compare the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit. In what areas of your life do you see a need for growth? Where can you look back and see fruit of the Spirit working in your life over time?
